New post on how polarization ate our brains. Part one of a series on what's fueling "our" misinformation trifecta: polarization, bad science and puritanism/moralizing.https://zeynep.substack.com/p/how-polarization-ate-our-brains …
Thank you for writing this!

Good read. I wonder how much the proliferation of academic journals with varying standards for peer review lends legitimacy to motivated reasoning evaluations.
I feel like it has been easy to fall into this assumption after they fired the person reporting the numbers though; perhaps I don't have the full story on that?
the polarization killed and injured so many in wv it was coincident w a familiar kind of snobbery, which helps keep ppl here angryhttps://twitter.com/sciencedave_wv/status/1362037342190592014 …
I find the extreme positions on masks (both "they're worthless!" and "24/7/365 masks forever!") to be equally ridiculous and tiresome, and yet it seems those are the only two camps that are permitted in current discourse.
We’ve all seen the “they’re worthless” takes, often every day. Nobody has ever said anything close to “24/7/365 masks forever!”
You ALMOST do something worthwhile here, but make this huge intentional omission: how much collateral damage did FL avoid by going more
#GBD than hapless Newsom or sociopath Cuomo et al? You’re still pandering to lefty hysterics while pretending to find a middle. Unimpressive.
A another great piece - you are the most essential writer of the moment
