A phenomenal guest essay by
@WhitneyEpi on how she navigated the uncertain early pandemic environment to decide whether to send her kids to childcare. A central tension in epidemiology, how to pick questions, observed vs. expected, sticky priors and more! https://www.theinsight.org/p/how-one-epidemiologist-decided-whether …pic.twitter.com/qct4p55rUR
Her THOUGHT PROCESS is way more important than the particular choice she made.
Indeed. That's why I love this essay.
It's a good article. Not every environment could be relied on to be as diligent, and there was also likely a strong benefit from other families not attending. It was a hard decision to make last year, especially with test/trace so poor, and very little evidence re kids.
Wonderful essay! Though I'm afraid to share it lest it encourage far less thoughtful people to use motivated reasoning to ignore covid precautions they don't like.
